Last weekend, Shaome Cooperative took another exciting step in our mission to cultivate the next generation of growers, thinkers, and leaders! As part of our GROW program, we installed protective fencing around the seven raised garden beds we donated to Heritage Elementary School earlier this school year.

It’s been a journey to get to this point—approval from the school’s maintenance department and some weather delays slowed us down—but hearing the enthusiasm from the students made every challenge worth it. The Garden Club kids were thrilled, and even students outside the club couldn’t hide their excitement when they saw the new fencing!

Why This Matters

These gardens are more than just patches of soil; they are living classrooms where students get hands-on experience growing real food. The fencing ensures that the young gardeners’ hard work is protected, giving them a safe and structured space to plant, nurture, and eventually harvest their crops.

Next up? Seeds and seedlings! We’ll be providing quick-growing edibles so that students can experience the joy of harvesting before school lets out in May. Imagine the pride they’ll feel when they pluck their first fresh carrot or taste a radish they grew themselves! This is what the GROW program is all about—turning knowledge into action, food insecurity into empowerment, and empty spaces into abundant gardens.

Join Us in Cultivating Change

This transformation wouldn’t be possible without support from people like you. Every donation, every sponsorship, and every volunteer hour brings us closer to a future where no child goes without access to fresh, healthy food.
